Export GeoJSON and CSV
Last updated
The Export GeoJSON button saves routes and stops from a Transitland data page as GeoJSON, for GIS and mapping tools, or as CSV, for spreadsheets and data-science tools. It is available to accounts on Transitland+ and Hobbyist/Academic plans.
| Page | Exports |
|---|---|
| Feed version | All routes and stops in the version |
| Agency | The agency's routes, and the stops they serve |
| Route | The route, and the stops its trips serve |
| Operator | The operator's routes, and the stops they serve, from the active version of each of its feeds |

Clicking Export GeoJSON exports routes and stops together as GeoJSON. Its menu offers routes or stops alone, as GeoJSON or CSV.

GeoJSON files are a single FeatureCollection. Route features come first, with the route geometry as a LineString or MultiLineString. Stop features follow, as Point geometries. Feature IDs are prefixed by type (route-…, stop-…). A route with a valid route_color also has a stroke property. A route without a geometry has a null geometry.
CSV files hold one part each, encoded as UTF-8 with a byte order mark. Route rows have no geometry. Stop rows have stop_lat and stop_lon.
Both formats carry these properties:
| Part | Properties |
|---|---|
| Routes | onestop_id, route_id, route_short_name, route_long_name, route_type, route_url, route_color, agency_id, agency_name, feed_onestop_id, feed_version_sha1 |
| Stops | onestop_id, stop_id, stop_name, stop_code, location_type, parent_station, wheelchair_boarding, feed_onestop_id, feed_version_sha1 |
An operator imported from more than one feed has rows from each. Filter on feed_onestop_id to keep one.
An export holds at most 100,000 routes and 100,000 stops. On a feed version page, options over the limit are not run. On other pages, the file stops at 100,000 and a notice says so.
For larger sets, download the feed version, or page through the REST API routes and stops endpoints, which also return GeoJSON. See response formats and pagination.
